Solar Eclipse 2002 Dec 04 - Giyani - Musina
Samson Mongolele of the Giyani Science Centre, Giyani, Limpopo Province was
one of our partners for the solar eclipse. Before the eclipse they carried
out educational workshops. For the eclipse itself they organised a number
of buses to travel to Musina in order to get into the path of totality.
Some pictures taken by Samson with the camera supplied for the eclipse
project are shown below.

One workshop was carried out at BaPhalaborwa. Here participants try out
their eclipse viewers.

Giyani science centre made use of their own orrery (foreground) together
with the one made in the HartRAO workshops to explain how eclipses occur.

For the eclipse, the buses travelled to the public venue at the showgrounds
in Musina, where a large crowd gathered.

Sunlight comes through a gap in the clouds shortly before totality. The
light is already very dim.
