Mike Gaylard
I am an astronomer at the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory
(HartRAO).
My research interests include:
- molecular clouds and molecular lines
- star-forming regions and interstellar masers
- HII regions and radio recombination lines
- evolved stars such as Miras and OH/IRs, and circumstellar masers
- the structure of the Milky Way.
My main functions are to:
- Lead the spectroscopy programme and provide user and
technical support for spectroscopic observations.
- Supervise or support university students carrying out undergraduate
practicals, projects and postgraduate research at HartRAO.
- Manage the science awareness programme of visits to the observatory and
related activities.
- Manage of the HP1000 computer system used to control single-dish
observations with the telescope.
- Help develop the Linux-based New Control Computer System which
is replacing the HP1000s.
A list of my publications is available.
