Award to Attie Combrink 2003/10/09

In August the Geospatial Information Society of South Africa (GISSA) in collaboration with National Geographic Maps launched a poster competition open to all masters degree students in the fields of mapping and GIS.

Attie Combrink of HartRAO submitted a poster titled "Using the SADC GPS Network for near real-time meteorology". The poster, put together by Attie and his supervisor Ludwig Combrinck was awarded the first prize.

On Thursday 9 October Carrin Martin, vice-president of GISSA, visited HartRAO to present Attie with a National Geographic Atlas and the R5000 that forms the award.

Attie is no stranger to winning awards - he also won a prize for the best presentation by a Masters student in Space Physics at the annual conference of the South African Institute of Physics held in Stellenbosch this year.
