The outermost ring of the new solid panels for the main parabolic surface of the telescope was completed on 29 September 2000. This ring comprises 48 panels. Surface accuracy on the panels averages 130 microns. The new panels show up as a bright white in the photograph as they lack the 1-cm holes of the old panels.
