Backups and Archiving

The NCCS must offer a possibility of doing regular backups of the disk and be able to archive data offline. A database of archived data should be kept and it should be easy to retrieve old data. The medium chosen for backups and archiving should be an industry standard and well supported, it should also be low cost. An export facility should also be supported so that visiting astronomers can export their data to their home institute. The export medium should be widely supported by the majority of collaborating institutes.

The NCCS must support the following media for internal use :

$\surd$
Digital Audio Tape (DAT),
$\surd$
network backup,
$\surd$
1.44 MB 3.5" stiffy.
