Safety

Safety is a very important aspect of any control system. The NCCS will only be involved in equipment safety and not personal safety. It is assumed that all aspects of personal safety (e.g. fire, danger of moving the telescope while somebody is on it) are taken care of by systems and procedures independant of the NCCS.

Therefore the main safety requirement of the NCCS is :

$\surd$
THE TELESCOPE'S SAFETY MUST BE INSURED AT ALL TIMES.

This means during normal operations and during a crash of the NCCS. The hardware interfaces to the telescope of the NCCS must stop the telescope in a predefined and safe way if the NCCS crashes or starts to malfunction.
